In my search for endless potable water I have considered various water filters. I really dislike the taste of iodine.

Platypus GravityWorks Water Filter does 4 liters in 2.5 minutes and costs $120.Then after awhile I will have to purchase replacement filters.

I think that a coffee filter and boiling would be slower but cheaper and not taste iodine-y. And what else do I have to do? Slowness is an advantage, says the tortoise to the hare.
