Trucks, trucks, trucks.

I have been planning on living in a truck like the one I have been using for the last 7 years, a Toyota Tacoma 2006, 4wd. I have just taken a look at the prices. Oops. Have to scratch that one. They are running around $16,000-$19,000. Really. Why did I think that a 7-8 year old vehicle would be affordable? I am mentally still in the 1960s with prices.

So I have been looking at what I can afford. A 1975-1988 4wd pick up. They run from $2,000-$5,000. Notice the 4wd. That is the part I need to feel comfortable. And the bonus of these old pick ups is the 8′ bed. Roomy. And I can work on the engine, unlike these modern machines where everything is digital. And the bodies on these oldsters are really banged up, implying that there is nothing worth stealing inside.

Here is a good example:

1984 Ford 150 4wd $2,000 102, 000 miles

1984 Ford 150 4wd $2,000 102, 000 miles

At 102,000 miles there will be hoses to replace, belts to be replaced, wheels to check, engine to check, radiator to check, etc.  “small chip in windowshield, new tires, AM radio don’t work, dash is cracked, driver side door panal broken on the top” I still think that it could be brought to live in functionality with another $1,500. There seem to be quite a few of these in the local cow country. I could be in luck.
