For the first time in a long time (more than 3 years) I took a look at who is reading the blog.
Readers surprised me!
-
- 61% are 18-34 years old.
I figured that since I was in my 70’s and was retired that was the demographic with whom I was communicating. Surprise. - 54% are men.
Since I am a woman and post mostly on women’s groups I figured the readership would be 70-80% women. Surprise. - 80% are new visitors.
Since I have not tried to attract any new visitors this is startling. Surprise. - New visitors stay on the site only 24 seconds.
Repeat visitors are on for 4 minutes and 22 seconds. Love those repeat visitors, but what are they doing for all that time? Surprise.
Why are people landing on this blog only to flee so fast? - How much Google knows about who lands on the pages.
So much. Not a real surprise.

What to do?
Go camping in one of the two free spots I found..
Fish Creek in Dolores County. It is down a dirt road for about 8 miles. Nice little creek, beautiful flowers, loud birds and no gold in the creek that I could find.
Near Dove Creek, Colorado, above Bradfield Ranch is a long dirt road, with cows, dead ending at a back end of a dam. Still and quiet. In 12 miles and 5 hours I saw only 1 person … a worker at the dam who walked during his lunch hour.
So if you have gotten down this far on the page I want to know what you would like to see on this blog. More equipment reviews? More personal stories of my journey? More of what? Less of what? Talk to me!

I am almost 70, and spend a lot of time seeking solitude in my Van. I live in a large metropolis and have to drive fairly far to find alone time in nature. I love the solitude and feeling of self sufficiency in your blog posts, and photos in particular. I hike, and backpack, I paddle and bike, I camp. I love it with company, and alone. Even when I am outside with others I find time to be alone. The sense of freedom and joy I get from solo outdoor activities is reflected in your blog posts, and they help keep me in that flow in the in- between times when I am planning a trip or working at home for a bit. Thank you for being there!

Thank you, emari. I love the solitude in nature, too. I stretch by going to Quartzsite in the winter, and am so grateful to return to solitude come spring and summer. Thank you for reading the blog and responding so authentically. ❤️

Thanks Mark. I am so often out of cell range that posting more than I do isn’t possible. And right now without libraries it is tough to post. Like the suggestion of things that do and don’t work. Have leaned on the positive, and gloss over things that don’t work. Thanks!

David & I are self-isolating and watching as our country implodes. No trip to Colorado for us this summer so I planted a few square foot gardens and am open to whatever opportunity I can find in each moment. As you know, these mountains are beautiful. I haven’t been in downtown Asheville in 4 months but I did manage my 8th trip to Kenya just before everything changed. This has been a time for us to do house projects we hadn’t gotten around to doing, time in our studios, and plenty of time for reflection. I spent a very cold night in Ophir once upon a time!

I am self isolating watching me clean the truck. I am glad to hear that you got a chance to back to Kenya. Hope all is going smoothly for your friends in Kenya. Lots of chores getting done, like y’all. The truck has never been so meticulously maintained. The weather has been very cold, sleety or smoky at the mine site, so I have been poking around lower altitudes. Camphosting all those years above Dunton I hardly drove 10 miles away from the site except for my dashes into Dolores for laundry/shower/groceries. It is delicious to wander over this San Juan NF.
Interesting time now. Maybe birth pangs.

Well I have to say that i find the stats surprising too. I am certainly in the same age range as you and i don’t think I was asked about age when i joined up a long time ago.
