A hatchet and a sharpening file and a fire

The hatchet has been used muchly. It has helped others. It has held an edge for a long time. It is very light, which makes it harder to split heavy logs, but easier to be precise. It is small and lives at the foot of the bed (with a machete).
The sharpening tool ( made by Smith’s) is used muchly, also. It folds up and hangs on a nail on a bed leg. Great for the must-have pocket knife.
This is the camp area. Third year here for the winter. “My”spot.

The open hood is to deter the animals. Old timers say so. Found the glove in the grocery store parking lot. Heavy duty leather. I can lift burning logs. The solar set-up (generator and solar panels) is doing great for my needs. I will go into a deeper look at what I use in the next post.
The fire in the mornings has been a great tool. Found myself getting annoyed if someone else started arranging the logs in the fire. Without asking me. Adding more wood. Without asking me. Who’s fire was it?
Ha. The fire in the morning is a great tool for learning.
Looking forward to hearing about the solar and electric generator. Just got one myself in preparation. I’d be interested in hearing how you chose your water container too. There are so many out there and each seems to be “the best”. Enjoy your solitude. And thanks for keeping us updated.

For water containers I use 2 types. 4 1 gallon grocery store water containers with screw top lids (The flip top ones pop open on bouncy roads). The 5 gallon container is a Scepter Potable blue one. The gallon containers last about 2-3 years. The 5 gallon Scepter is till going strong after 6 years. I do clean the big one out once a year with a bit of bleach in the full container. I slosh it around, then let it sit over night. Pour it out, rinse it out and it’s ready for another year. Seems rugged. Thanks for reading and commenting. Tiny solar set up coming next!

So wonderful to hear all is well for your winter. Yes I have heard the same about leaving hood up, rodents dont like making home in open or light filtered areas. When we close our RV up for winter I open every single cupboard and drawer. LET there be light! LOL!.
Who is arranging your fire logs? That is your fire.
Enjoy your camping.

A neighbor came every morning and would rearrange the fire. I had no idea that I would be so possessive!!
