Obsessions

While living this aimless life I have let myself go. Yes, in all kinds of ways.

The delightful obsession of lichen happened in San Juan National Forest.

“Not related to any plant. Sometimes have moss in their names, but aren’t related to mosses. They don’t have roots for water, but do grow nutrients from photosynthesis. Lichens can be seen as being relatively self-contained miniature ecosystems, where the fungi, algae, or cyanobacteria have the potential to engage with other microorganisms in a functioning system that may evolve as an even more complex composite organism.”

Wow.

Lichen, cacti, gold, meteorites, strange books …. can’t get enough of this journey. I keep finding new stuff. And new stuff about me as I keep letting go.

Obsessions are great. All of mine seem to have a shelf life of 3-4 years. What do you count as your obsession(s), Pip?

What a lovely obsession…Lichen! I share this obsession with you. I get all gooey when I see a rock covered with beautiful lichen and have to stop and shoot some photos. Arizona has some the most beautiful collection of rocks covered with variant shades of lichen. Lucky you 🤗

Colorado, in the San Juan NF, is littered with these wild things. In the AZ desert I switch obsessions to cacti. No idea what I’m gonna find next! Thank for reading the blog, Cindy. What are you obsessing with?

I’m obsessing with being outside enjoying all the amazing things this wonderful planet has to offer. Hiking, skiing…happiness 😊

Speaking of cacti, I downloaded a very cool app called Picture this. You snap a picture of a cactus, plant, tree or shrub and it identifies it. When I was in AZ there were so many plants and trees I wasn’t familiar with. Had a lot of fun with it!

I use an app called iNaturalist for the same thing. Upload a photo and quick identification. Amazing tech/phone/world! Thanks for PictureThis. I’ll check it out.
